About The Iberian Fork
Two neighboring countries, hundreds of regional food traditions, and a remarkable number of things you can make with olive oil, garlic, fresh ingredients, and a little patience.
I’m Inês Navarro, the editorial voice behind The Iberian Fork. My focus is simple: making Spanish and Portuguese recipes easier to discover, understand, and cook at home.
More Than Paella and Pastéis de Nata
There’s so much more to Iberian cooking than the dishes most people already know.
Spain has its slow-cooked bean stews, garlicky seafood, regional rice dishes, and wonderfully simple tapas. Portugal brings its own traditions of salt cod, rustic soups, comforting rice dishes, grilled fish, and pastries worth taking your time over.
Some recipes need little more than a frying pan and 20 minutes. Others deserve a quiet afternoon. Both belong here.
What You’ll Find Here
I focus on recipes with a clear connection to Spanish or Portuguese food traditions, including lesser-known regional specialties.
Each recipe is designed to help you understand:
- What the dish is: its original name, background, and regional connections.
- What you’ll need: ingredients explained in plain English, with practical alternatives for harder-to-find items.
- How to make it: straightforward instructions, useful visual guidance, and the small details that matter.
- What makes it different: traditional techniques, regional variations, and where modern adaptations depart from the original.
Measurements are provided with American home cooks in mind, while keeping metric quantities available whenever practical.
Respecting the Original
Not every traditional recipe has one universally accepted version. Families, towns, and regions often prepare the same dish differently.
I think those differences are worth understanding, not smoothing over.
When a substitution changes the character of a dish, I’ll explain it. When a recipe is adapted for convenience, I’ll make that clear too.
The goal isn’t to make every dish look traditional. It’s to help you cook something delicious while understanding where it comes from.
